Canon 24-105 is a very good choice. Good price, good optics and still handy. Since it is Canon's bundled lens, there is lots of supply in the 2nd hand market. The 2nd hand price is cheap.

If u really want a super zoom, the Canon 28-300 is not particular good optics.

I once tried the Tamron 28-300. The optics is decent. I guess there is no point to compare the price of Canon 28-300 and Tamron 28-300.
